Baseball’s rise to fame began in New York City, where it was first played. The Knickerbockers, a team of Manhattan-based players, promoted formalized rules and modeled themselves after the New York cricket club. Despite the popularity of American baseball, the game has received a national boost from a variety of sources. In 2013, USA Baseball organized a 12-u National Team. The team competed in the first IBAF Women’s World Cup in Edmonton, Canada. In 2006, it repeated its title in Taiwan, winning gold. In 2010, the team took bronze in the same tournament. The World Cup was a great success for the sport and the nation.
