How to get cigarette smoke out of a memory foam mattress?

Cigarette smoke stains and odor can ruin a good night’s sleep. Before your prized memory foam mattress tears prematurely, you should try cleaning it so it keeps performing at its best for a long time.

There are a couple of cleaning tricks you should know so you can do quick mattress maintenance when you need it. If you only have a problem with the smell of cigarette smoke that has somehow been absorbed into your mattress, try the following tips:

Tip 1: Try isopropyl alcohol

Here’s what to do, soak a clean towel in alcohol and use it to rub the surface of the mattress. Deodorize and disinfect your mattress. What’s also great about this hack is that the rubbing alcohol dissipates quickly, so you don’t need to spend a lot of time drying.

Tip 2: Try the sprayed citrus solution

Mix one cup of lemon juice with four cups of water and pour the mixture into an empty spray bottle. Spray the memory foam mattress with this deodorant solution. Lemon juice removes unwanted odor. Once it’s completely dry, vacuum the mattress to completely remove the odor.

If you’re having trouble with brown smoke stains, the following tricks may help:

Tip 1: Sprinkle Baking Soda

Try sprinkling baking soda on the mattress and letting it sit for about an hour until the stains can be easily removed. Rub it gently so it can penetrate deeper. Once the stains are gone, vacuum the mattress on both sides.

You can also try mixing baking soda with water and applying it to the affected area. Leave the solution on the mattress for the same amount of time and vacuum it up.

Tip 2: Vinegar Solution

Drizzle on some vinegar solution. Vinegar can be used to clean appliances and upholstery. Try mixing one cup of vinegar with four cups of warm water, and add a bit of baking soda to the mix. Spray the mattress with the solution and leave it on for an hour. Once the stains are gone, vacuum.

These tips should take care of cigarette stains and odors. You can also try these if you have other mattress cleaning issues, as they work well on mold and coffee stains, too. Give them a try and you can significantly extend the life of your memory foam mattress.
