How to take care of your car headlights

It’s a common occurrence on the road: gleaming cars with fancy bodies, washed and polished to the point of failure, sporting hazy, yellowed headlights! You see dirty, unkempt, cloudy, and scratched headlights on old cars and you see them on flashy new cars. It’s amazing that people go to the trouble of vacuuming their interiors and hand polishing their exteriors while leaving their car headlights looking really ugly.

Unattractive headlights are a convincing eyesore because your headlights form the basic character of your car. This is what is seen for the first time in a car. They are the eyes of the car and play an important role in keeping your car looking good. Clear headlights are also a safety requirement. Foggy headlights don’t cast adequate light on the road and could very well land you in a ditch at night. It is therefore important to take care of your car’s headlights regularly, both for aesthetic and pragmatic reasons.

The good news is that keeping your car’s headlights in excellent condition is easy; and investing some time in it will keep you safe and happy.

Cracked Headlights – If one or both headlights are cracked, replace them immediately. Any cracks in the surface will allow moisture and dust to seep in, clouding headlights and increasing glare for oncoming drivers. If you need to wait until the weekend or holiday to replace the headlight, caulk the crack with resin until you replace it.

Dirty headlights: Use headlight cleaners to clean your headlights. Dirty and cloudy headlights can greatly affect your night vision. So, every time you wash your windshield, be sure to clean your car’s headlights as well.

Maintenance: Many drivers say they just don’t remember to check their headlights. This is bad. Inspect your headlights annually to make sure they are in good condition and properly focused. Replace bulbs once a year to keep your headlights in good working order. And it’s important to replace both bulbs, even if you have a situation where only one is burnt out.

Condensation: Sometimes the headlights get cloudy due to moisture retention. To remove condensation, remove the headlight and drill a small hole in the bottom. Drain the water and allow the headlight to dry. Seal the headlight and reinstall it.

Headlight Lenses: Newer vehicles have polycarbonate lenses. This makes it easy to maintain and repair, if necessary. However, while polycarbonate is tough and tough, it also has a tendency to cloud and yellow after prolonged exposure to UV rays. Fortunately, there are a number of clarifying agents to help you get rid of this haze.

For those who are less inclined to buy products to clean their headlights, there are headlight repair and maintenance kits. These kits have everything you need to keep your lenses clean.

Keeping your car headlights in good condition is not a difficult task. All you need is consistency.
