Low-carb diets lack many nutrients

A low-carb diet is, in fact, very unsafe! These diets like Adkins for example, do not make you feel good. Low-carb diets are intended as a quick fix and do not promote any long-term weight loss. When you follow a low carb diet plan, there is a severe reduction in calories, leaving out many good foods that are very nutritious for the body. Many people experience unwanted food cravings and have a very limited selection of what they can and cannot eat.

Many low carb diets like Adkins cause ketones. Ketones are not healthy for the body for any length of time. A ketone state is very hard on the kidneys and can eventually cause them to shut down completely. People who follow these ridiculous low-carb diets also experience sweetness on their breath.

When the body doesn’t have enough stored carbohydrates, it also triggers mood swings and will make you feel tired and completely drained of energy. Carbohydrates are vital to our health and one of the things that will give us our source of energy and vitality. You don’t have to eat the unhealthy carbs, but stick to those that are healthy whole grains and contain fiber, which is another thing missing from a low-carb diet. Eating foods like whole grains, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta and breads are the boons of good nutrition and will help you lose weight in a much more satisfying way. Low carb diets will not allow you these foods and therefore make you feel quite miserable and deprived about everything.

Contrary to what others may believe, diets like the Adkins promote the rate of heart disease since the diet eliminates all good carbohydrates. Eating the fats that the program tells you to eat will surely cause cholesterol levels that are not pleasant. This is because Adkins and similar low carb diet plans cause you to consume a lot of animal fats which contain a lot of saturated fats. Saturated fat is the fat that is NOT GOOD for you! This fat clogs the arteries causing atherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes. When these plans ask you not to eat as many vegetables and tubers, then much of the good nutrition, that is, fiber and good natural vitamins, are not part of your diet. This sets the stage for poor heart health. Plant foods like sweet potatoes, oatmeal, grapes, bananas, carrots, etc. help good cholesterol (LDL).

Low carbohydrate diets can cause a person to have gout. This is due to the promotion of uric acid as these fatty foods on the low carb diet program have purines. What are purines? Purines are substances that promote the formation of too much uric acid in the system. Gout is often caused by uric acid in the blood being too high, so this is something to consider when looking for a low carb diet plan.

Kidney stones are also easily formed by too much uric acid in the blood. Kidney stones are very painful to have, and if you’re someone who tends to get them regularly, it’s unexpected to be on a diet that has a high amount of purines.

Another thing that comes into the equation is cancer risks. Many whole-grain foods reduce cancer risk, including oatmeal, potatoes, whole-grain breads, and whole-grain cereals. Low-carb diets keep you at a higher risk of developing colon cancer and stomach cancer. This is due to the fact that you don’t get any of the antioxidants you need from fruits and vegetables.

And last but not least, bone disease, such as osteoporosis, can result from a low-carb diet. If you eat mostly protein for a long time without whole grains in your diet, there will be no antioxidants to help you store and use calcium and process vitamin K. Calcium is what provides strength to your bones along with collagen, which also doesn’t take from high-protein diets. And vitamin K works in the bones to strengthen them along with calcium, as well as helping blood to clot properly.

So in general, before you decide to start a low-carb diet plan instead of a well-balanced diet with lots of great nutrients, think again. Isn’t your health worth it?
