What you should know about a puppy before adopting it

Adopting a puppy can change both your life and his, especially if the puppy comes from a shelter. When you go to a dog shelter and see crowds of dogs crammed into those little cages, you want to take them all home with you. However, before making such a decision or deciding which puppy you want to adopt, there are a few things you need to know about your future friend.

When you decided to have a puppy, you wanted a companion who would stay by your side, with whom you would play and run around the park; or wanted his children to play with him. Either way you want your dog to be good and well behaved. That is why you have to know everything about its previous owner and about the education he received. Make sure he wasn’t brought to the shelter because he bit a family member or because he was barking or howling for no reason.

There are many dogs that have been brought to the shelter because their owners could no longer care for them for one reason or another. These are the best puppies for adoption as they have received a proper education and can be easily socialized.

Also, you should ask the caregivers at the shelter if the dog you want for adoption is behaving strangely or has caused them any problems since they brought it in. They should know better than anyone which dogs are friendly and which are more aggressive. Also, ask them if they think some of the dog’s clothes can be altered with special training, or if he’s going to act like this his whole life.

Don’t forget to ask about the medical condition of the dog you want to adopt. You don’t want to bring home a sick dog, which will die after a couple of weeks. Also, to prevent the puppy from getting sick, you should take it to the vet to get all the vaccinations it needs. A routine check-up will also be welcome, so that you know for sure what the real health status of your four-legged friend is.
