Caring for your Gott thermos

It is a well known fact that Gott thermoses and their newer water cooler type counterparts are very durable and rarely fall apart under normal conditions. However, you should still practice a responsible consumer attitude and take care of your thermos with regular cleaning and maintenance, ensuring that your Gott thermos stays alive for much longer and also preventing you from contracting illnesses caused by germs and bacteria that can be found in your Gott products and ultimately the liquids you drink.

For more efficient temperature maintenance

Preheat or pre-chill your Gott thermos before use. You can do this by pouring hot water inside or by pouring cold water, depending on what you intend to put in later. Let it sit for 5 minutes and replace the contents with the actual liquid you are going to keep. Doing so will ensure that your liquids will maintain their temperature for much longer. This action saves the thermos some time by completely eliminating its tendency to readjust its temperature just to match the contents, a phase that could actually reduce a certain amount of time from the hold stage.

Wash your thermos before and after using it

It is very important that you clean your Gott thermos before and after use, regardless of the contents you place inside, as bacteria buildup can and will occur all the time. Use dish soap and a clean sponge to clean stains and grime from the inside and then the outside. Make sure it is completely dry before resealing the lid. This prevents the accumulation of bad odors derived from humid air. And don’t forget that bad odor is usually the result of toxins or bacteria.

Do not use a dishwasher

Do not use a dishwasher to automatically wash your Gott thermos. The thermos itself is durable, but the automatic process of a dishwasher may lack the required attention to detail that a thermos may need. There are nooks, crannies, and various crevices present in the thermos that can go unnoticed by most automatic dishwasher cleaning appliances.

Don’t boil your thermos

Despite its solid state and toughness, a Gott thermos can eventually weaken if constantly placed in direct heat designed to constantly boil it from the outside. To disinfect, use boiling water only on the insulated interiors and use soap to disinfect the exterior area.

Don’t put it in the microwave.

Heating the thermos in the microwave is even worse than boiling it. While it is designed to take a certain amount of heat, it was not designed to completely overheat you. The purpose of a thermos is to hold heat by insulating the liquid with a vacuum, preventing loss of temperature through conduction. The microwave, on the other hand, is designed to constantly heat things through radiation. This could cause the thermos to melt, and even worse, the insulation on your body will prevent the contents from heating up. All you’ll get is a melted, warped thermos with warm water inside.
